The position of Assistant Head of Operations is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in playing a significant role within the tourism sector. 
 
The successful applicant will report to the Head of Operations and work closely with the Senior Management and Business Unit Managers.
 
As Assistant Head of Operations you will have responsibility for providing and supporting the Head of Operations in the implementation, administration and reporting of the Health and Safety Management Systems and perform the role of Health & Safety Officer for the organisation.
 
The position will oversee, develop, and implement a facility management programme to cover scheduled, preventive and reactive maintenance. 
 
This position oversees, supports and in the absence of the Head of Operations directs all aspects of the Operations of the sites and will have a focus on health & safety, facility management and service delivery.  
 
Priority areas for the Assistant Head of Operations are:
 
  • To assist in the operational /maintenance, and health & safety aspects of the site, it’s employees and visitors.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Operations ensure that the key objectives within health & safety and maintenance of the organisation are met by managing workloads that maximises the use of resources.
  • Providing line management to the maintenance team & health and safety assistant and work closely with the Operations Management Team.
  • Ensuring a safe world class visitor experience is provided and help to embed a culture of a great place to work through trust, respect and safety.
 
The main duties of the Assistant Head of Operations include:
 
  • Develop and implement a facility management programme to cover scheduled, preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Work closely with the procurement department within shared services with the management of maintenance contracts Sites.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to oversee facility refurbishment and renovations as required.
  • Monitor facility performance in respect of energy usage, water usage and waste management with a view to implementing processes to improve system.
  • Respond to facility and equipment breakdowns, alarms and system failures
  • Resolution of maintenance issues raised by the Company.
  • Ensuring the highest standards of general maintenance on site.
  • Co-ordination, operation & maintenance of fire alarm and other safety related systems as required.
  • Implementation, administration and reporting of health and safety management systems and perform role of Health & Safety Officer for the organisation.
  • Co-ordination of all site maintenance activities. i.e. contractor activity etc.
  • Daily liaison and co-ordination with operational management on all facilities and health & safety related matter.
  • Participate as a member of the organisation’s Green Team and assist in implementation of agreed actions.
  • Establishes and maintains a prominent level of visibility and involvement on the various sites and in local business, social communities as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains effective employee relations including open communication with all employees.
  • Delivers on specific projects that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Supports and works in conjunction with the Head of Operations and with other teams to ensure best practice throughout all operations at the Clare Tourism Visitor attraction sites
  • Participate in outreach activities to support Clare County Council associated tourist attractions and services as required.
  • Deputise for Head of Operations as required. 
 
Requirements/Essential Skills and Attributes:
 
  • Proven track record in operational / H & S management with at least 3 years management experience
  • Candidate will ideally have a Diploma / Degree in a similar or related discipline in tourism / visitor management. H & S qualification an advantage.
  • Experience in workforce management systems packages. 
  • Experience in facilities management, maintenance and operations.
  • Good knowledge of a Building Management System.
  • Good knowledge of a Health & Safety System.
  • Flexibility and a strong problem-solving approach to issues.
  • Experience of managing people in a small to medium size enterprise.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of teamwork & motivation skills.
  • Proven organisational skills & experience in multi-tasking.
  • A commitment to excellence, continual innovation & world class service delivery.
  • Ability to enforce standards, policies and procedures with Employees.
  • Ability to ensure security and confidentiality of visitor and Company information.
  • The successful candidate is required to have a current full, clean, class B drivers’ licence and access to own car.
