Physiotherapy Graduate (Fixed Term Contract) required for a multi-disciplinary role working with the ageing population in the Cork region.

We are seeking a Graduate Physiotherapist (ISCP membership essential). The role involves predominantly working with the geriatric population in the private retirement and nursing homes sector. This is an ideal position for recently qualified graduates with a genuine interest in working with the ageing population.

Overview of Role:

  • Using your clinical reasoning/diagnostic skills and evidence based practice, you will hold an active caseload offering a range of appropriate assessments and rehabilitation treatments to maintain and improve quality of life for the resident community
  • Setting outcome measures for residents using research based functional, mobility and fitness assessments
  • Providing ongoing one to one physiotherapy sessions to residents following completion of initial baseline assessments
  • Delivering focused group exercise sessions to the residents with aims to promote wellness, reduce falls and increase activity levels
  • Monitoring and evaluating client's progress
  • Maintaining and updating confidential individual resident case notes and reports
  • Working hand in hand with the home medical and nursing team to integrate physiotherapy as an integral part of the care plans
  • Educate residents, nurses and carers on how to prevent and/or improve conditions
  • Clients would include predominantly (but not exclusively) geriatrics with physical and mental pathologies, neurological conditions (Stroke, Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer's and related dementias) arthritic and musculoskeletal conditions and cardiorespiratory compromise, as well as able bodied and active ageing adults

Candidate Requirements:

  • Third Level Degree in Physiotherapy qualification
  • Current membership of the ISCP
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • Experience working with a long term geriatric population would be greatly beneficial but is not essential
  • Strong communications skills both verbal and written
  • Awareness of Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) and their National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland
